A bit of a scare
So. Tuesday I rode my bike down to the store feeling all exuberant-like. It had been a little rainy during the day so I was trying to be careful. When I took the turn into the parking lot, I went a little wide so I could hit the lip more straight-on. Did that pretty well, but for some reason my trajectory caused me to graze a curb and crash.
So much for caution.
At first, I thought I had re-broken my freshly healed ribs because I went down on my left side. And, well, my ribs hurt like hell. They still hurt a little but not as much as they would've had I rebroken them. And more importantly, they are getting noticeably better by the day.
So, I'll be back on the bike Monday.
The rains haven't settled in yet, but I'm trying something sort of different this year. More retro really.
I picked up a Jackson and Gibbens Rain cape from Aaron.

Here's my rationale. Most cycling rain gear doesn't work well for me, or costs more than I'm willing to pay. If it works well enough to keep the rain out, I'm wet due to sweat.
I've tried unzipping the front of my jacket to keep air circulating. It sort of works. But water coming in the wrists means my arms are usually wet.
So, I'll see how the poncho works. I'm guessing this with my wool covering should work pretty well. I only see two problems with it. First off, wind. Will it be very effective on a rainy day? Secondly, I can't see the mirror on my left handlebar. This is more of a nuisance thing.
More on this once I've tested it.
Just a non-cycling related plug. I'm using Firefox 2.0 with Adblocker Plus. It rocks.
